various techniques on paper

Paolo Maria Deanesi Gallery, Rovereto, IT

The inaugural exhibition at Paolo Maria Deanesi Gallery, Rovereto, featured a group of drawings focused on the figure of the bird. Like the angels and ghosts, but on secular terrain, this figure touches upon the complex of floating, of flight and weightlessness.  In these fourteen framed drawings, the birds, isolated and in groups, some bearing human heads, are usually shown sitting or running; all, in any case, maintain ground contact. The vertical movement is taken up by the motif of the ladder, which, in various combinations, remains a leitmotif in the oeuvre. In the context of the work on playground and the subsequent works that deploy the motif of the wire mesh fence, the birds as much as the ladders can be read as metaphors of escape.
