This wall drawing, which collects the paragone between drawing and painting into a single gesture, was realized in a construction site in Vienna’s 6th district used, during a single evening, for an exhibition and party. The shadow relief of a broad gestural brushstroke is realized in poster pen on the wall. The paint that trickles down from this pictorial trace, however, defies gravity, running toward a vanishing point in an imaginary spatial depth located outside the surface of the real wall to which the brushstroke seems to have been applied. The transformation of the center of gravity into a vanishing point—a device used in similar fashion in other works—lets the reproduced brushstroke float amid the white of the support medium it dissolves. The title of the work, hanfbauer, is taken from the farmer who cooked that night; it was his moniker.
